First Person Politics is recruiting political psychology blogging interns to contribute written material to our website’s blog. You will be expected to compose at least 3 posts per week on topics related to political psychology. All pieces must be submitted for editing and review prior to publication. Most posts will be in the neighborhood of 1,000 words or longer, and will generally fall into one of the following categories:
– Exposition and/or application of theoretical concepts
– Analysis of current events or public figures from a psychological point of view
– Strategic and/or policy recommendations grounded in political psychology
– Book, film, television, and article reviews relevant to political psychology
– Critiques of essays, op-eds, and blog posts from a psychological point of view
– Interviews with academic experts and thought leaders in political psychology
Our audience consists predominately of political professionals, consultants, media figures, and analysts. Most readers will be familiar with current events and are interested in a psychological perspective on American politics. If you have a strong background in a particular sub-field of political psychology or methodological approach, you may be asked to assist in our consulting work for clients in lieu of your other responsibilities.
Duration: Minimum 4-month commitment, otherwise negotiable
Start and End Date: Negotiable
Hours: Minimum 20 hours per week, otherwise negotiable up to 40 hours per week
Compensation: Unpaid
Educational Requirements: At least some college, however advanced degree candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Location: You will work mostly from home, however you must currently reside in the DC metro area – absolutely no exceptions.
skills and qualifications
– Demonstrated interest in political psychology including some academic exposure, work experience, or both
– Experience in political blogging or journalism is helpful but not required
– Strong writing skills
– Strong critical thinking and analysis skills
– Flexibility, combined with an ability to meet deadlines
– An interest in progressive politics
